MOS 125D—Geospatial Engineering Technician
Geospatial Engineering Technician (MOS 125D) Description / Major Duties:
Coordinates and supervises the collection, production, analysis, interpretation, and processing of Geospatial information. Validates Geospatial information accuracy and directs database development, and maintenance. Identifies Geospatial information requirements for Intelligence Preparation of the Battlefield (IPB) and the Military Decision-Making Process (MDMP). Directs and supervises the production of graphics and tactical decision aids to support the MDMP. Coordinates with Staff Weather Officer (SWO) on all requirements for critical weather information and determines the impact of weather on ground operations. Directs and supervises system administration of multiple Geospatial Information Systems (GIS) on a Local Area Network (LAN) and Wide Area Network (WAN). Plans topographic support. Coordinates Geospatial information actions with staff elements. Manages reproduction and distribution of hardcopy and digital terrain products. Performs staff briefings and graphic presentations at all levels of command. Performs interpretation and analysis of remotely sensed imagery. Prepares topographic orders and annexes. Integrates Geospatial information vertically and horizontally on the battlefield. Directs technical training within the unit. Commands separate detachments performing Geospatial engineering missions in support of divisions and brigades. May be employed as a service school instructor or training developer/writer. Performs other officer level duties essential to the mission of the assigned unit.
MOS 125D Minimum Requirements for eligible feeder MOSs:
- Be a SGT (E-5) or above in MOS 12U, 12Y, 35G and USMC 0261
- Warrior Leader Course Graduate or equivalent for USMC and USAF
- Have successfully completed the Basic Topographic Analyst Course or the Geospatial Engineer Course / Geographic Intelligence Specialist Course / Imagery Analyst Course
- Have a minimum of four years operational experience as a working analyst in MOS 21U, 35G or USMC 0261 in at least two assignments. (One combat tour as a working analyst in MOS may count as an assignment)
- Have a minimum of two years of documented leadership experience with clearly demonstrated potential for increased responsibility and leadership (waiverable to one year if the one year is in a tactical leadership position in combat i.e. NCOIC of BCT / DIV Geospatial Team / Squad Leader of Division Geospatial Engineering Team, Special Forces Group or Battalion or its equivalent imagery intelligence assignment.
- Have a minimum of three NCOERs / FITREPs
- Be a BNCOC graduate (now known as Advanced Leader Course or ALC) (Common Core and Technical Phase) (waiverable based upon documented leadership performance in OEF/OIF.)
- Have a Top Secret Clearance based on a Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI)
- Be eligible for access to Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI)
- Enclose a written recommendation from a Senior Warrant Officer (CW3 and above) who holds the WO MOS 125D or 350G. In organizations where no SWO is available, a letter of recommendation from the MOS 125D or a 350G that you currently work for is appropriate.
MOS 125D Minimum Requirements for Non-Feeder MOSs:
- Be a SSG (E-6) or above (waiverable to SGT with one year tactical leadership position in combat i.e. NCOIC of a Team, Squad Leader, or a Platoon SGT.
- Have a minimum of four years of documented military geography / Geographic Information Systems (GIS) / GEOINT / imagery analysis experience and / or Tactical Battle Staff Plans experience (i.e. BCT / DIV / Corps Plans NCOIC) using an Army Battle Command System (i.e. DTSS / DCGS-A / MCS / ASAS / C2PC) and / or experience with duties and skill sets similar to that of MOS 21U / 35G / 125D or a Four-year Geography related degree from an accredited college/university or a GIS / GEOINT Certification from an accredited college/university/government institution.
- Minimum of two years documented leadership / supervisory experience with clearly demonstrated potential for increased responsibility and leadership
- Less than 12 years of active service.
- Have a Top Secret Clearance based on a Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI)
- Be eligible for access to Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI)
- Enclose a written recommendation from a Senior Warrant Officer (CW3 and above) who holds WO MOS 125D.
* All non-feeders selected for MOS 125D may be required to attend additional training based off of their experience level.
Preferred Qualifications for MOS 125D:
- SSG(E-6) or above
- Leadership experience at the tactical level (SBCT, BCT, DIV, CORPS)
- 2 years college credit from an accredited institution
- Geography related degree or certificate from an accredited institution
- Battle Staff NCO Course Graduate
