Yellow Ribbon Program
The Post 9/11 GI Bill Yellow Ribbon Program is a wonderful way for colleges and universities to provide grants / scholarships to military veterans which are matched dollar for dollar by the department of Veterans Affairs. This is a voluntary program for colleges to participate in that covers additional tuition and fee expenses. Remember, the Post 9/11 GI Bill covers 100% of in-state tuition and fees for a public college (undergraduate, graduate, or doctoral) but only up to a maximum of $17,500 for tuition and fees for a private institution. That is where the Yellow Ribbon comes in to save the day, allowing military veterans to attend a private institution with little or no out of pocket expense for schools that participate in the program.
NOTE: The Yellow Ribbon Program is only available for military veterans eligible for FULL Post 9/11 GI Bill Benefits. Vist the Post 9/11 GI Bill page to learn if you qualify for full benefits.
Participating colleges must agree to the following conditions to participate in the Yellow Ribbon Program:
- Contribute to eligible military veterans under the Yellow Ribbon Program on a first-come, first-served basis, regardless of the rate at which the veteran is pursuing training in any academic year
- Continue to contribute to eligible military veterans during the current academic year and all subsequent academic years when participating in the Yellow Ribbon Program and the student maintains satisfactory progress, conduct, and attendance
- Contributions are made on behalf of qualified veterans in the form of of a grant, scholarship, etc.
- Indicate the dollar amount contributed for each veteran during the academic year
